Peter Mangs

Today Peter Mangs was given a life sentence for two murders and five attempted murders. He has been ordered to pay damages of over 1.1 million kronor (127,000 Euro).

In 2003 and between 2009 and 2010 Peter Mangs allegedly shot several people with dark skin and non-Swedish appearance in Malmö, Sweden, in imitation of John Ausonius who shot several people between 1991 and 1992. Mangs is accused of killing two immigrants back in 2003, making the serial sniper approach seem like an inefficient strategy of armed resistance for militant nationalists, though he caused widespread panic in Sweden.

In comparison, Mohammed Merah killed 7 people using a point-blank headshot approach, similar to the execution style used by Anders Behring Breivik. Merah relied on a scooter to quickly disappear after each execution.

Mangs has denied guilt and subsequently the court proceedings were rather uneventful.

Brunon Kwiecień

At a news conference in Warsaw prosecutor Mariusz Krason has stated that a 45 year old university researcher who taught organic chemistry planned to detonate a 4.4 ton car bomb outside the Polish parliament. His name is Brunon Kwiecień and he was arrested November 9 after explosives, detonators, over 10 firearms, 1000+ rounds of ammunition, and a kevlar helm were found at his residence. They also found a video of a test explosion which left a large crater in the ground.

Kwiecien is a pyrotechnics enthusiast who is missing two fingers on his right hand, and according to some sources he was planning to ram the bombcar into the side of the parliament, which is indicative of a suicide strategy.

There are no known political affiliations. Kwiecien created a video testimony which he most likely intended to upload to video sites before the attack. Based on this video, or possibly police interrogations, the political views of the suspect were summarized as being nationalistic and xenophobic, with an outspoken admiration for Commander Anders Behring Breivik. He views the current Polish leadership as treasonous and refuses to be subjected to psychiatric testing.

There was no direct link between Kwiecien and Breivik, though he had acquired materials from the same Polish company which raised red flags. It's unclear whether he considers himself a Knights Templar. Some sources claim that his wife reported him to the police when she found out he was researching the creation of a dirty bomb, another claim is that students reported him after he made nationalistic remarks during a lecture. Additionally Kwiecien's internet postings alarmed the Polish authorities over a year ago.

Two people have been arrested in connection to the plot. There are also rumors that two undercover police officers approached Kwiecien and had been recruited into his cell. If Kwiecien denies terrorist motives, as per KT guidelines, his maximum sentence could be as low as 5 years. Taking into account that the police confiscated a video testimony his sentence may be much longer.

Kwiecien has been fairly prolific online, here are some quotes:

"It is time to organize, because nothing will be accomplished by simple talk."

"We must organize and act against tyranny. Our fathers and grandfathers fought for our right to live in a free country. Most of you are all talk.  It is time for action."

"One must get through to people who think they have 'freedom and democracy', who firmly believe in it. It is only because regimes manipulated media have convinced them of this. This is the reason the European Commission attempt to suppress the free media that is the Internet, because it cannot control and manipulate it. Question. What is the European Commission? A body that is not elected by universal suffrage, as is the case with MEPs in the European Parliament. Who appoints them to this Commission? the 'Bilderberg Group', who are the richest and most influential people in the world. Thus, the European Commission and the European Parliament does not decide on the introduction of ACTA, and not us, the citizens. Therefore, the  conclusion must be drawn that we live in a totalitarian state, and the 'freedom and democracy' is a myth."
